Translate Real Estate will begin by selecting two locations in different cities, New Haven and Brooklyn or others, each week. Then, we record for 1 minute to capture and embrace the atmosphere and soundscape of the location. The recordings are documented and generated from our daily lives, such as a busy street, a park, a school, or a restaurant, through our movement and travel. Once the recordings are made, we exchange them with only the metadata of the sounds. And we visualize the sounds by creating videos without any location information. We, both designers, communicated with these sounds every week, and eventually, we collected 70 sounds with 70 videos.

Translate Real Estate explores the communication between the creators of location-based sounds and how to reconstruct scenes without visible information. What we find evocative about sound is the way it leads us to create an image in our mind. So all the information in the sound is very complex and rich, and we immediately intuitively create images of what we hear, even if we do not provide exact details. These elements work in synergy; we encounter a completely different reality.

The project has evolved and will continue to evolve into multiple digital and physical forms. An associated presentation of the project will take the form of an archive website allowing visitors to access and interact with the videos in real time. This will allow anyone anywhere in the world to experience the sounds of the site and interact with the visualization. The website will also provide information about the site.
